The main objective of the Group Strategy Department is to support and influence current and future decision-making based among other things on research, analysis and assessment of future trends, opportunities and challenges.  The insurance sector faces enormous change and potential disruption in the future, challenging Ageas to constantly predict, prepare, and re-assess the status quo.  To meet this challenge the Group Strategy Department will carry out in-depth analysis across a 12 year+ horizon, leading a group-wide think tank “Think 2030” to research and analyze different scenarios.

Your function

The Strategy Manager will take the lead to:

  1. Establish a flexible and agile structure able to respond quickly to challenges, by leveraging a Group-wide pool of expertise (2030 core team, 2030 community and external experts) combining strong business proficiency and an entrepreneurial approach, inspiring out of the box thinking;

  2. Deliver annual updates of 2030 concept papers around important future topics defined by the 2030 work and the MCO;

  3. Challenge the status quo, making recommendations on future skills, choices etc. as part of the yearly cycle with the Chief Development Officer. Consistently push, challenge and support the CDO in its transformation and development journey;

  4. Drive a revised “Horizon Scanning” process fuelled by the needs identified by the 2030 work;

  5. Conduct deep dives on inspiring successes from other markets/industries and experimental areas based on MCO input, business demands or output from Horizon Scanning;

  6. Explore and exploit strategic thinking emerging from external partnerships with Singularity, Vlerick, University chairs, other academic alliances;

  7. Take up an advisory role to MCO by providing a “long-term” strategic view and opinion on proposed M & A files and capital management initiatives including dividend, buy-backs, debt issuance etc;

  8. Take up an advisory role to MCO by sharing “long-term” perspectives on specific missions e.g. views on geographic positioning and opportunities, takeover defence strategies etc;

  9. Provide quarterly review of strategic risks as part of the overall group risk assessment, developing the strategy section of the annual ORSA report.

Your profile

  • You have a university degree (any additional degrees e.g. MBA a plus).

  • You have 8-10 years successful professional experience in devising and implementing business strategies involving quantitative and qualitative analysis, conceptualisation and communication of strategic solutions at a leading company in the insurance/finance industry or in the consultancy world.

  • You possess superior problem-solving skills

  • You have the ability to work well under pressure in a demanding environment. 

  • You are self-driven, well-structured yet flexible and able to think strategically/end-to-end. 

  • With a high level of agility, you are eager to develop new skills and areas of expertise.

  • You are fluent in English, Dutch and French.

  • You are down to earth, social and flexible.
