The main objectives of the Group Strategy Department are i) to support current and future strategic decision-making with research, analysis and assessment of future trends, opportunities and challenges, and, ii) to monitor the implementation of the Group’s Corporate strategy, helping to steer and finetune the Group's strategic trajectory.

Your function

The Strategy Manager is part of a small team which takes the lead in the:

Monitoring of the mid- and long-term environment and strategic outlook

  1. Manage and animate the Group-wide pool of expertise (2030 core team and the 2030 community) to observe and reflect on mid-to-long term developments and how those can impact our local businesses and the industry as a whole. Create, maintain and nurture a network of industry experts (beyond Ageas Group) to keep abreast of industry developments;

  2. Drive the long-term “Horizon Scanning” process fuelled by the needs identified by the 2030 community;

  3. Prepare and steer the delivery of (i) concept papers on megatrends identified by the 2030 community (and the management committee (MCO)) or (ii) deep dives on inspiring successes from other markets/industries and experimental areas based on MCO input, business demands or output from Horizon Scanning;

  4. Explore and exploit strategic thinking emerging from external partnerships with academic institutions (e.g. Vlerick) as well as international organisations and industry associations (e.g. World Economic Forum, Geneva Association) and act as key group correspondent for such partnerships;

Corporate strategic planning and implementation monitoring

  1. Facilitate the cascading of the three-year strategic plan Impact24 to Ageas’ local  businesses and (develop tools to) monitor/track its implementation going forward;

  2. Include in such monitoring the progress made by the newly created CDSO function, responsible for implementation of all transversal business initiatives in Business Development, Technology Development & Sustainability;

  3. Assist the senior management in understanding deviations from the stated ambitions and benchmark against competitors. Contribute and assist in identifying appropriate finetuning of the strategic plan;

  4. Participate in the yearly budget process to ensure consistency with the strategic plan;

  5. Take up an advisory role to MCO by sharing “long-term” perspectives on specific  topics as well as on portfolio management decisions (M&A, divestitures);

  6. Provide quarterly review of strategic risks as part of the overall group risk assessment, developing the strategy section of the annual ORSA report.

Your profile

  • You have a university degree (any additional degrees e.g. MBA a plus).

  • You have 10-15 years successful professional experience in strategy, business performance, or research roles in the insurance/financial or consulting industry and you have a sound understanding of the international insurance industry

  • You have a positive attitude, an open mind and broad interests, quantitative and qualitative analytical skills and you are comfortable with conceptualisation and communication of strategic concepts and solutions to C-level executives.

  • You have the ability to work well under pressure in a demanding environment.

  • You are self-driven, well-structured yet flexible and able to think strategically/end-to-end.

  • With a high level of agility, you are eager to develop new skills and areas of expertise.

  • You are fluent in English (knowledge of Dutch, French, Portuguese, Turkish and Mandarin Chinese are specific plusses).

  • You are down to earth, social and flexible and you are comfortable to work in an environment of cultural diversity.
