AG Real Estate powers up its commitment to sustainability

AG Real Estate will install the largest ever photovoltaic roof on a logistics building in France, namely its HAVLOG building, with the clear aim to reduce the building’s carbon footprint and become self-sufficient. But even more than that, it will be able to supply all the electricity needs of the inhabitants of the two municipalities in which it is located. And to achieve this it partnered with an award-winning industry leader in photovoltaic technology Urbasolar. AG Real Estate is the real estate subsidiary of Ageas’ Belgian daughter company AG and acts also as a real estate consultant to Ageas.

With an exceptional volume of 92,000 square metres this installation is not only the largest of its type in France, but it also underscores AG Real Estate’s ambition to keep investing in environmentally friendly buildings.  AG Real Estate is certainly no stranger to this type of initiative having one year ago invested in the world’s most powerful solar roof through a joint venture with Heylen Warehouses. Covering an extraordinary 12.6 hectares, this installation has the capacity to power up the equivalent of 4,500 households. This iconic project initiates a partnership that will equip the majority of properties owned or managed by the joint ventures between AG Real Estate and Heylen Warehouses, namely AG Heylen Energy and AG Heylen Solar.

As a Group, Ageas is highly committed to sustainability, and this was recently reinforced when the Group announced its new 3-year strategic plan Impact24, with sustainability front and centre. Ageas already has more than EUR 6.5 billion invested in solutions that contribute towards the transition to a more sustainable world, which includes among other things a strong commitment to renewable energy through initiatives like offshore windmills, solar panels and other climate friendly technologies. By 2024 we want to increase to EUR 10 billion sustainable investments. These initiatives exemplify our Group’s commitment to putting sustainability firmly at the heart of our business and decision making in the coming years.
